About Us

Disaster Recovery Technologies was formed by a group of highly experienced, passionate IT specialists who have worked together at various parts of their careers and have one primary goal in mind - that from their deep rooted sector experience, they have a firm belief that a rock solid backup and recovery strategy can be attainable by any business.

It is generally considered that backup and perhaps more importantly, recovery of an IT environment is one of the most important functions and considerations a business and IT department will undertake. A business needs to rely on this fundamental technology when the worst happens, and it needs to be a solution that does not add vast amounts of administrative overhead, or constantly eat away endlessly at precious IT budgets.

Collectively, we have over 35 years experience in the Technical IT arena, ranging from Helpdesk support services, all the way through to Technical Architecture and Consultancy.

During this time we have observed that most solutions in this marketspace are either prohibitively expensive, or cookie-cutter, off-the-shelf solutions that represent both, a compromise to the business in terms of functionality vs. cost, that don’t perform as expected during a crisis, and that ‘lock-in’ the business with spiralling ongoing support and maintenance costs. Countless times we have heard “well….our data gets backed up to tape every night, and we get a backup report that’s green…..I hope it’ll be OK… we’ve never actually had time to test it”

Some of Our Team

Lloyd

The main founder of Disaster Recovery Technologies and our main server/storage expert. Lloyd has held Systems Manager and Technical Architect roles within some of the UK’s largest companies in diverse markets ranging from multi-national IT service providers, FTSE 100 listed transport companies through to large legal and marketing companies. Lloyd also has extensive Solutions Architecture exposure within the independent schools arena. Lloyd holds a variety of leading vendor certifications from companies such as HP, Nimble, Citrix, VMware, Veeam, Sophos, Microsoft and Novell/Suse and holds a current Enhanced CRB/DBS certificate.

Simon

Also a co-founder, Simon has a degree in Computer Science from Aberystwyth University. Simon's interest in computing started at an early age after purchasing a Commodore home computer, where the interest in programming and how computers worked was spawned. After graduating Simon's first position was in software development but he later moved into IT infrastructure focusing on applications in 2000. Since then Simon has looked after many systems and back office environments including Microsoft SQL server, AD, IIS, and SMS/SCCM and also various business critical ERP systems. Simon progressed to team leader and then manager of infrastructure and operations looking after over 100 servers for the UK part of a multinational corporation. Heavily involved with M, A & D business activities and the infrastucture integrations that ensuses, Simon also was a key member and later ran the DR strategy team for the UK part of the business. Simon then changed direction and moved to DevOps and Cloud, working with AWS and Azure for global Information Solutions within the same corporation.

Paul

Paul joined us recently and is another critical team member. Paul's background is in support, servers, storage, backup operations and infrastructure architecture.

Anna

Anna keeps us, and the office, very well organised! Anna also has a degree in Computer Science from Aberystwyth University. Anna's background ranges from support, to scrum master, Agile coach to project and release management.
